- Principles of Epidemiology
This course introduces the basic principles and methods of epidemiology as applied to public health problems. The focus of this course is on epidemiologic measures and study designs.
Topics covered in this course include disease transmission, morbidity and mortality, surveillance, screening, descriptive and analytic study designs, bias, measures of association, causation, and ethical and professional issues in epidemiology.

- Cancer Risk Appraisal and Prevention
This course summarizes the basic principles and applications for cancer prevention regarding the major cancer causes identified. It highlights the way of cancer risk appraisal and preventive measures which could reduce the burden of cancer. Furthermore, it also suggests opportunities to share the global experiences on cancer prevention and intervention.

- Introduction to Cancer Biology
This course is mainly for students at the Department of Cancer Control and Population Health and is aimed to acquire basic knowledge of cancer, so that they can apply biological and clinical aspects when working on cancer statistics and epidemiology.

- Nutritional Epidemiology
This course is to cover the basic concepts of nutritional and dietary factors which affect chronic diseases. Students will be able to conduct basic analyses using dietary data and association studies for diseases, implement nutritional education program and intervention, and interpret findings from both statistical and biological perspectives.

- Nutrition and Cancer
The goals of this course are to explore concepts in research on nutrition and cancer and their applications and to provide skills for understanding and critically evaluating the epidemiologic literature in this area. Students will acquire knowledge regarding what is currently known about the relationships between various dietary factors and cancer.
Doctoral Courses
- Molecular and Cellular Approaches to Human Cancer
This course is aimed to provide basic knowledge of cancer, especially focusing on molecular and cellular biology. So, students will learn basic mechanism at genetic, molecular, and cellular levels, which will lay the foundation for further understanding clinical and epidemiological aspects in other courses.

- Systems Epidemiology
The course aims to teach an epidemiologic approach to risk identification that includes systems-level (e.g., omics) exposure measurements at multiple levels (sociodemographic, clinical, biological, etc), network analyses of inter-relationships among risk factors, and computational simulation of risk scenarios in parallel to data-driven biostatistical risk modeling. This course also helps students understand that systems epidemiology should be seen as a supplemental approach that has advantages that conventional epidemiology studies lack.

- Nutrition and Metabolism
This course will provide knowledge and understanding for students to be able to explain current research on molecular mechanisms of nutritional factors and the role of dietary components for the development of a disease. Students will be able to make a scientific discussion of state-of-the art research on molecular nutrition that mediates the effects of dietary factors in the development of disease and recent breakthroughs in metabolic diseases.

- Risk Interaction in Cancer Causing
This is an advanced course to make students understand interaction effects of cancer risks in development of cancer regarding the study design adopted, statistical modeling applied, and epidemiological implications expected. It also focuses on practical perspectives such as statistical methods for measuring and interpreting interaction effects, practice of dealing interaction, and clinical and political application.

- Social and Behavioral Sciences
This course is designed to understand basic theory, various models, and practical values of social and behavioral science and to facilitate the ability to conduct social and behavioral research in health sciences. Furthermore, it provides chance to learn how to the put theory and practice together for field application in the area of cancer research.

- Molecular and Cellular Approaches to Human Cancer
This course will handle modern concepts and recent progress in molecular and cellular biology in the perspective of a cancer biologist. This course will include fields of DNA structure, organization of gene, gene expression regulation at the transcriptional level, gene expression regulation in post-transcription level and modern cell biology. We will combine genetics, biochemistry, and molecular biology with traditional morphological descriptions to show how studies of cells function at the molecular level. This course will introduce students to the dynamic relationship between the structure of cellular organelles and the numerous biochemical reactions that are necessary for cell growth and survival with an emphasis on cancer development.

- Methodology in Cancer Research
In this course we will cover the basic methodologies for cancer research and show how to design and develop research method for simple research projects. We will also discuss potential directions for future research with the development of important cancer science disciplines. It will be an introduction to basic concepts and principles of cancer research methodologies, as well as various research methods in cancer science, clinical, and data analyses.

- Integrative Cancer-Omics
What is -Omics? The analysis of cancer specimens with advanced molecular biology technologies, and the processing and collection of large amount of high-throughput data. The -omics field promise to uncover the building blocks of the tumor cell and potentially uncover all aspects of the genetic material and their modifications, all RNA transcripts, and all proteins and their modifications. We will guide the participants in important and basic aspects of omics research, their individual potential and prospects, and what we have learned from it to this date.

- Recent Advances in Cancer Research
Cancer has been coined a genetic disease, since it is the acquired mutations that in large part govern tumor initiation and growth. But there are many aspects in medical treatments of cancer that deal with the consequences rather than causes of cancer growth. This course will highlight current prospects of applied cancer research. We will also uncover hot topics that will be instrumental in future treatments of cancer.

- Cancer Bioinformatics and Precision Medicine
According to The NCBI Handbook, “Bioinformatics consists of a computational approach to biomedical information management and analysis. It is being used increasingly as a component of research within both academic and industrial settings and is becoming integrated into both undergraduate and postgraduate curricula. The new generation of biology graduates is emerging with experience in using bioinformatics resources and, in some cases, programming skills.” Following this line, this course primarily puts weight on introduction of publicly available web resources and databases, which are major cornerstones for transition to personalized medicine.

- Hallmarks of Cancer
This course focuses on topics and approaches to gain an in-depth understanding of tumor development and metastasis. Lectures will draw from the current research literature and cover topics including cell growth regulation, genome stability, adhesion, deadhesion, cell motility, and invasion with emphasis on clinical aspects and applications.

- Radiation Biology for Cancer Treatment
In this course we will detail how cancer survive from radiation and discuss biological and physical strategies to boost radiation sensitivity. We will also discuss the appropriate role of radiation in cancer therapy. We will teach radiation therapy from basic molecular mechanism to current radio-sensitization tactics via lecture and practical workshop. Students will learn how radio-sensitivity varies among cancer cells and why molecular biological change occur in cancer cells after irradiation. The course will highlight appropriate radio-sensitizer aiming at different cell death pathways to understand appropriate strategy in radio-sensitization.

- Cell Communication in Translational Research
Abnormal cell communication can lead to various diseases including cancer. Thus, researchers and clinicians have great interest in the cell communication systems as potential targets for therapeutic intervention. This course focuses on inter- and intracellular communication, from the generation of signaling molecules through the cellular responses. It teaches concepts central to understanding cellular signaling mechanisms, and covers the major signaling pathways and several emerging pathways. Explanations of cellular and molecular techniques that are important to understanding key advances in this area are integrated into the material presented. Class sessions will include didactic lectures and group discussions of problem sets or reading assignments.

- Application of animal models in cancer research
This course includes the wide variety of models available to the factors that inform the choice of an appropriate model for the research planned, and to provide basic training in the ethical, legal, and technical aspects of their use.

- RNA Biology
This course will cover the cutting-edge trend of RNA research as well as classic knowledge on RNA. The main objectives will be:
1) to understand the role and mechanism of small regulatory ncRNAs as well as intermediate and long ncRNAs, 2) recognize diverse roles and properties of RNA, and 3) to understand the metabolism of diverse RNAs including mRNAs and ncRNAs. In addition, students will present RNA-related so that they will be trained for critical reading.

- Introduction to radiation biology for cancer therapeutics
This course provides radiation therapy from basic molecular mechanism to current radio-sensitization tactics via lecture and practical workshop. Furthermore, the knowledge of various radiosensitivities among cancer cell types and molecular changes after irradiation will be provided. At the end of this course, student should understand the biological and clinical basis of current radiation therapy.

- Introduction to Cancer Therapeutics Research I
This course provides students with a solid grounding in the basic knowledge and scientific underpinnings of translational approaches towards cancer therapeutics. It covers basic concepts central to understanding the dynamic fields of cancer therapeutics research including molecular cancer biology, cancer immunology, cancer virology, medicinal chemistry, and medical engineering. The lectures will be given by GCSP track3 faculty members which are medical doctors and basic Scientists. By the end of this course, the students should be able to understand general concept of the fields of cancer therapeutics.

- Current Perspectives on Cancer Therapeutics Research I
This course is designed to introduce recent progress and future perspective in cancer therapeutics fields as well as the new developments in cancer therapeutic approaches. This course is the lecture series that “Track3” faculty members made for students who have interest in cancer therapeutics fields. The lectures will be provided by professors that teach at “ Introduction to Cancer Therapeutics Research I” course. The topics covered the cutting edge subjects in cancer therapeutics fields. By the end of this course, the students will enhance the ability to design and evaluate experiments in cancer therapeutics topics.

- Gene and Immunotherapy
The overall objective of the course is to provide specialized introduction in the principles of immunotherapy and cell therapy as applied to the field of cancer therapeutics. The course focuses on the concepts, methods, issues, and applications of the immunology in cancer therapeutics efforts. The course will be taught by a range of scientists and clinicians leading these areas, and there will be significant time programmed to discuss the emerging issues. It will include group work, discussions, guest lectures, and interaction and feedback with tutors and lecturers. *Prerequisites: The course is designed for students who have taken immunology.

- Clinical and nonclinical research for cancer therapeutics
This course is designed to educate student about the importance of nonclinical and clinical platform for drug development and anti-cancer therapeutics. Specially it will focus on the growing cross talk between basic science research and clinical practice for development of nonclinical and clinical platform. It is also designed to review drug development and therapeutic approaches using nonclinical platform. Finally, the class will also cultivate discussions on approaches to challenging issues related to drug development and treatment of the most common human cancers

- Principles of Medicinal Chemistry
Medicinal chemistry and pharmaceutical chemistry are disciplines at the intersection of chemistry, especially synthetic organic chemistry, and pharmacology and various other biological specialties, where they are involved with design, chemical synthesis and development for market of pharmaceutical agents, or bio-active molecules. The aims of this course are to teach students what principles of drug discovery and pharmacodynamics agents, especially chemotherapeutic agents.

- Radiation Biology for cancer treatment
This course will provide how different the radio-sensitivity is among various cancer cells and study molecular and biological changes in the cancer cells after irradiation. This lead students to discover appropriate radio-sensitizer according to different cell death pathways and to understand appropriate strategy of radio-sensitization. By the end of this course, student would understand ‘why and how’ of current advanced radiation therapy.

- Molecular genetics in cancer research
This course introduces the fundamentals of the molecular genetics and molecular cytogenetics for cancer therapeutics based on mouse genetics. It comprises genetic variation and causes behind genetic diseases as well as the cellular and molecular mechanisms behind the origin and progression of cancer. Current clinical diagnostics and treatment of genetic diseases and cancer will be treated as well as methods and techniques. This course will also give an overview of the current research within genetics and cancer.

- Principles of Bio-Statistical Inference
This course aims to introduce basic concepts of statistical inference, including descriptive statistics, parameter estimation, and hypothesis testing. The course will provide a broad overview of biostatistical methods and concepts used in the public health sciences and medical research. Topics includes descriptive statistics, t-test, non-parametric test, ANOVA, and Regression. There will be lab sessions.

- Regression Methods in Biostatistics
This course aims to introduce concepts and tools in regression analysis. At the end of the course, students will understand the concept of simple and multiple regression, distinguish correlation from regression, understand the concepts of confounding and interaction, and understand the performance of dummy variables. Also, students will be able to perform multiple regression analyses, interpret the results in software outputs, and choose the best model based on evaluation statistics and model diagnostics.

- Introduction to Statistical Computing
Understanding statistical computing and graphics is essential in modern health science research. This course introduces students to statistical computing environment. This course covers basic concepts of electronic data management, explanatory data analysis and graphics. A statistical package used most frequently in the health sciences will be utilized (e.g. SAS, STATA, R). Basic programming methods will introduced.

- Principles of Epidemiology
This course aims to introduce students to basic principles of epidemiology and study design. This course covers the principles and methods of epidemiologic investigation including describing the patterns of illness in populations and research designs for investigating the etiology of disease, and introduces quantitative measures to determine risk, association, and procedures for standardization of rates. It also includes the development of research questions, overview of epidemiologic study designs, the evaluation of measurement, and bias, confounding and interactions in epidemiologic studies.

- Principles of Clinical Trials
This course will introduces basic concepts of clinical trials. Included topics are rationale of clinical trials, ethical Issues, basic study design, randomized controlled trials, size of a clinical trial, baseline assessment, case report forms and data management, types of adverse events, basic principles of statistical analysis, quality controls, and interpretation of findings.

- Spatial Data Analysis
This course will introduce the commonly-used computational techniques for spatial data in public health using Geographic Information System (GIS). The course materials include fundamental concepts, principles and tools of GIS, basic theories and frameworks of the geographic information science, basic theory of spatial data structure and relational database, spatial analysis tools, and data visualization. Students will gain practical knowledge of GIS data structure, acquisition, management, analysis, and presentation. While discussing the topics, the course will guide students to apply GIS tools to public health problem solving.

- Statistical Methods and Theory
This course covers various statistical methods and theory including probability distribution, likelihood estimation, hypotheses test, large sample theory, and theoretical backgrounds in data analysis.

- Advanced Statistical Modeling
This course aims to provide student in-depth knowledge of statistical modeling: its theory and applications. This course will cover advanced statistical modeling methodology including linear models, generalized linear models, and longitudinal data analysis. Both theory and application will be discussed.

- Survival Data Analysis
This course introduces basic concepts and statistical methods in the analysis of survival data. This course will cover basic underlying theory in survival analysis and emphasize the practical aspects of analyzing and interpreting survival data. Various applications in medical researches, epidemiology and population studies will be introduced.

- Principles of Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
This course introduces the basic principles of meta-analysis. This course includes backgrounds on all parts of meta-analysis as follows: problem formulation, conducting a literature search, data evaluation, effect size coding, data analysis, and reporting the results. Its focus is both basic and practical. By the end of the semester, students will be able to conduct a systematic, replicable search of the literature used to identify studies eligible for a meta-analysis, to create and analyze meta-analytic databases using appropriate statistical techniques, and to write a systematic review and meta-analysis article.

- Quality of Life in Cancer
This course aims to understand the core concept and effects of Quality of life(QOL) and it's measurement in cancer care. This class provides an opportunity to understand theory and practice of QOL in cancer care. Also students will learn how to evaluate the effectiveness of QOL. This course will help student to understand basic knowledge and principles of QOL so that they can better work to improving QOL in cancer care.

- Survey Data Analysis
This course aims to provide students basic knowledge of survey questionnaire design, sampling methods, and its analysis. Researchers who want to conduct survey have to deal with sample designs, writing questions, turning those questions into meaningful questionnaires, locating sample units, processing data, and analyzing the results. In the questionnaire design part, students could understand the construction, evaluation questionnaire, and effective interviewing method. In addition, students get to know about various sampling method to get representative result, data handling, and analysis.
