- Research Interests(Please place in paragraph form)
- Dr. Lim, as the epidemiologist, has interest in identification of cancer risk factors and development of prevention or intervention program at the national and community level. In these aspects she has operated the community-based prospective cohort for more than 10 years and implemented field trials of behavioral risk intervention including tobacco use and cancer related infections. Main interest of her research are to 1) Identify the behavioral risk factors associated with cancer development regarding the primary prevention or intervention in the social and physical environments, 2) Design and evaluate community-based preventive interventions to reduce behavioral risk of cancer, such as tobacco and alcohol use, infection, sedentary behaviors, unhealthy diets, occupational exposure, and etc., 3) Well-grounded multidisciplinary research toward assessing the distribution and determinants of cancer with the aim of establishing reasoned preventive measures, 4) Improve methods for epidemiological investigation, to enhance validity and efficiency, and to expand the scope of activities in which epidemiologic methods can be usefully applied, 5) Develop the field framework and tools for application of research outcomes to community advocacy and education. Based on the research scope and experiences mentioned above, she has contributed to draft, review, and implement the “Second Term 10-year Plan for Cancer Control” for years 2006-2015 in Korea, which comprised whole scope of government policies and programs for comprehensive and concrete cancer control. In particular, she devoted to develop the ‘Cancer Prevention Program’ and its’ implementation such as setting up the evidence based national guidelines, developing the framework and programs for dissemination, increasing public awareness, implementing field education and training, evaluation of program effects, and etc. National Cancer Information Center (NCIC) for delivering evidence-based information on all types of cancer through a call center service at 82-1577-8899, web site (http://www.cancer.go.kr), and publications, and Nationwide Quitline (1544-9030) for behavioral counseling on tobacco cessation was also designed, developed and managed under the her expertise.
