Research Interests (Please place in paragraph form)
Dr. Cheong’s research focuses on investigation of regulatory mechanism of autophagy and its molecular connection to alterations in cancer metabolism. Metabolic stress derived from abnormal cancer cell proliferation leads to autophagy. Autophagy is a catabolic process leading to the degradation of cellular components through a lysosomal pathway. Understanding the context-dependent role of autophagy in cancer development remains a hot topic in oncology research and has profound implication for the design of cancer therapeutics.
