- Research Interests
- Dr. Kim is basically surgical oncologist for gastric cancer. He is a pioneer of laparoscopic gastrectomy in Korea. He performed over 3,000 laparoscopic gastrectomies already. He has accomplished randomized clinical trial and published recently making level I evidence on this. He organized and finished multicenter trial on laparoscopic gastrectomy for advanced gastric cancer thereafter. Recently new biggest trial was commenced with a name of ADDICT trial enrolling 1,880 patients, Not only clinical trial for laparoscopic gastrectomy, but many clinical trials on gastric cancer was co-leaded by him in Korea. He is also interested in developing medical device. He is PI of The project of developing three dimensional laparoscopic system supported by Ministry of Knowledge and Economy. It was successfully commercialized last year and now on marketing with the world best quality. He has more than 10 patents for medical device. He has planned developing surgical robotic system and pioneer of telemedicine project with research network, KOREN in Korea. He has helped and provoked many cancer survivorship programs. As a head of Center for Cancer prevention and Detection, he has developed innovative screening programs. As a sub PI of Tumor bank of NCC, he dedicated to develop information system and banking of tumor with high quality. Based on this repository, he would start new translational research finding novel theragnostic biomarkers for gastric cancer. He is secretary of gastric cancer cohort study in Korea. He is deeply involved with a lot of cancer control program as a consultant and co-investigator. As a chair of research committee of Korean gastric cancer Association, he is initiating nationwide planning for gastric cancer research. Transfusion alternative and blood management is also important for him. He is now PI of FAIRY trial, which is a novel multicenter trial testing ferric carboxymaltose for acute isovolemic anemia after gastrectomy.
