About Ilsan

Ilsan Photo Goyang is a large city with a population of over 10 million. Goyanglandis being developed as Ilsan New City since the 1990s; eventually became one of the leading cities in Korea. People started to live in Goyang since the Paleolithic Age, about 75,000 years ago. The rice seed ‘Gawaji’ in Daehwa-dong was started to grow in Goyang since 5, 000 years ago - it is assumed that rice farming must start from Neolithic Era. A name of Goyang is derived from Go (literally means high) of Gobong-san Mountain and Yang (literally means sunny) of Deogyang-san Mountain; the name was started to be calling from JoseonjoTaejong.

Goyang is surrounded by Bukhansan Mountain in east and Han River in west. A variety of cultural ruins and remains is still remained in Goyang because the town was very close to a capital, Gaeseong during Goryeo Era and a capital, Hanyang during Joseon era; its typical examples are Bukhansanseong, Haejusanseong, seooreung and Seosamneung.

Today, Korea’s largest tourism attraction, Ilsan Lake Park and the largest exhibition convention center, KINTEX in Goyang lead a MICE industry of Korea. Goyang also plans to complete the construction of Korea World Town, five-star hotel, aquarium, thematic part and various shopping malls in phase by 2018.
