Mai Tran, a student at the NCC-GCSP (Director Lee Eun-sook), won the "Best Oral Presentation" award at the 13th Annual Meeting of the Korean Society of Medical Oncology & 2020 International Conference (KSMO2020) held on September 3. The spread of the corona changed this year´s conference to virtual conferencing, but more than 1,700 participants participated and seven best oral awards were selected.
The Mai Tran student completed her master´s degree at the International University of Cancer and is currently attending a Ph.D. program. In the contest, Mai Tran was honored with the honor of winning the best oral award under the theme of "Fifteen-year Trajectories of Health-related Quality in Life in Breast Cancer Long-term Survivors in Korea." The study is about how the quality of life of breast cancer survivors changes from diagnosis to treatment and from long-term survival.
The results of this study showed that breast cancer survivors gradually improve in many aspects of health-related life quality, generally after one year of cancer diagnosis after major cancer treatments. In particular, the outlook indicators for social functions, physical functions, and future have been greatly improved. However, survivors still complained of high levels of pain, fatigue and sleep problems after 15 years of cancer diagnosis. As the number of long-term cancer survivors continues to increase in recent years, it is important to understand their characteristics and develop necessary cancer survival programs.
